OK, So I'm a bad blogger. There are so many cool thing that have happened and I've said, "I need to write about this!" and then have never made the time to do it. I could write entire posts about many of the things that have happened over the last few weeks, but I will just mention them briefly and hopefully have the energy to revisit them later.
I had the privilege to participating in two very important events over the last few weeks that are very dear to me. The first was the Relay for Life, which I walked with friends in honor of and in support of a sweet friend, Erin, who is battling colon cancer at only 30 years old. Erin worked at McCullough and went on to another junior high to be a counselor the year I started there, but I had the privilege of meeting her and getting to know her through friends. She has two young children, Leighton who I believe is around 2 years old and Finley who is just five months and just found out that she has a very aggressive form of colon cancer. She is a fighter though and we know that she is going to beat this disease.
The other event that I was honored to participate in was the March of Dimes. This year I walked in honor of my dear friends Kevin and Michelle and their sweet baby girl, Addison. Addison was diagnosed with Trisomy 18 before birth. We did not know if and/or how long Addi would make it. She is currently at home with her parents and doing well. They are taking things one day at a time and really trusting the Lord to guide them as they make decisions for Addison and trusting that he will heal her little body. She is such a blessing!
Being able to participate in these two events was really life changing for me. Particularly the Relay for Life. I can't put into words how humbling it is to see the survivors walk the first lap of this relay. It really puts things into perspective. I would encourage everyone to find an event like this to participate in.
