Only 11 more days of school left! Yippee!
For those of you who are teachers, you totally understand. For those of you who haven't been in the classroom for a while, let me try to explain. Do you remember how you felt in junior high/high school in those last days of school? You were probably anxiously anticipating all of the fun things you would do over the summer: swim, go on vacation, hang out with your friends, sleep in, go shopping, see family and overall, do what you want, when you want. I'm here to tell you that it's WORSE for the teachers! HA! Seriously...these kids have already sent their brains on summer vacation and we have to work to keep their attention and keep them motivated. We become more like cheerleaders and motivational speakers than teachers at this time of year. The problem is we're the ones who need the cheers and the motivational speeches :) You know it's bad when Leslie and I spend our conference period today creating a plan of escape (aka: the tutoring business we are going to start so we can work less, make more money and have babies!) AND to top it all off, as Donna so nicely said it today, "We have a whopping weekend off and then we start summer school". Summer school will be much better though. Earlier mornings and earlier releases. And, it's only until July 2nd...I can do this...right?
Really, I love my job. But any of you crazy people who say "I would love to be a teacher and get to have summers off" have NO idea what we do all school year to EARN the summer off. Every ounce of love, patience and grace that I have is spent and I need the time to recharge my batteries. And so begins my countdown to summer...
