November/December Update

November was a fun month for Blake. He turned 6 months old (on our 6 year anniversary), said is first 'word' (sorta) and spent his first night away from home.

Let's start with talking: He has started babbling "da-da-da-da" and, I think, knows to associate it with Lance although he says it even when Lance isn't around. I suppose we'll let this count as his first word. I'm anxious to see what words follow. He is so curious and full of wonder. I know there are thousands of words and ideas bouncing around in his little head.

On his 6 month birthday we planned for his doctor's visit (complete with shots - boo!) and then his first night away from home. I think I packed enough stuff for him to stay at my parent's house for a month but I wanted to be sure they had everything they might need :) My mom met me at the doctor's office and took him home with her after the visit while I went to work. Lance and I went out to dinner at our favorite local Mexican food restaurant and then called to check on Blake. He had a rough night because he wasn't feeling too well after his shots, but he was a trooper and so were my parents. We all made it through the night! Yay!

Now, he has perfected his roll over and sitting up his own from laying down. Now that he's mastered that he has moved on to pulling up on things. He isn't much of a crawler. He gets up on all fours and wobbles and he scoots a little but he really just wants to be standing. He is such a happy boy. He wakes up with a smile on his face in the morning and is ready to play. He's loves music and any toy that makes sound. He is so much fun.

Sleep has been our only sticky situation. He got into a routine where he was waking up once a night to eat. The doctor said this was OK. He said with his reflux he was smart enough to know how much he could handle during the day and needed the extra calories at night. Getting up one time wasn't bad, but then he got sick. I thought he had an allergic reaction to pears. (rash on his face, irritated, itchy eye, etc.) He was getting better but I thought I'd have the doctor check him out anyway. I had to be in a training so I had my mom take him to the doctor (the first time I didn't go!) and it turns out he had an ear infection and RSV. Lovely. We had a rough couple of nights where I literally had to hold him all night. I was finally able to put him back in his crib and he would sleep there but only for a couple hours at a time. We were up constantly. Now that he's feeling better and eating better we decided it's time to get this kid to sleep. We let him cry it out Sunday night. He's so stubborn. He comes by it honestly though. He fussed/cried for a little over an hour. He woke up one time, ate his bottle and went back to sleep. Success! Monday night he cried again but for a much shorter period of time (30 minutes). He never woke up and slept all night! Woo Hoo! Last night he didn't cry long, he woke up one time, ate and slept the rest of the night. We're making some serious progress people.
