Even with a trip to Disney, this week before Spring Break has been so long! The kids are getting anxious for the break and the teachers are worse. We are so excited that tomorrow is Friday and a short day with the kids because they have early release.
I have decided this week that I am so glad I 'just' a teacher and not our department head like my dear friend, Donna. If my week has been long, you can bet her week is worse!
For example, in one day she had to deal with a crazy student teacher (We'll call her "Sue") who among other things (I'm sure):
1. Came to work on her first day at our school dressed in a very low cut shirt (can you say, junior high boys?!) and flip flops.
2) When her mentoring teacher told her that she (the teacher) needed to grade projects and suggested that Sue go next door to see an amazing lesson presented by a fellow teacher, Sue says, "No, I'm OK" and does nothing.
3) Second day on campus, hits another teachers car in the parking lot, refuses to give appropriate information and has to be called into a meeting with Donna, our police officer and an AP.
4) Can not follow a simple direction like "Stay here. I'll be right back."
5) Goes into Donna's room to observe and takes no notes, pays little attention and then decides to put her head down on the desk as if taking a little nap.
6) Completely lies to the advisor from her university in front of Donna, forcing Donna to get on the phone with him right there in front of her and tell the man the truth.
Needless to say, she was not on our campus today nor will she be back.
This was just one small event in a day in the life of Donna. God bless her!!
On a more positive teaching note, from someone who actually loves teaching (since Sue apparently could care less!) despite my NEED for a break from these crazy kids, I told Donna today that I would teach our Summer TAKS Academy. Call me crazy, but I am actually excited about it. Leslie is going to do it to (of course,b/c I can't do anything with her!) and we are going to have so much fun. It will be differnt than our job last summer where we worked M-Th from 7:30-5:30 basically from the day we got out of school until we went back. Teaching will be M-F (I think) from 7:45-12:00 noon starting June 9th and ending July 2nd, so we'll still have a break.
Well, I better go check on the dogs. They're being a little too quiet. That either means they're being angles or they've escaped and are checking out the neighborhood! We'll see.
